INKA Respite was established in 2010 by Todd and Margaret Jarvis as a public benevolent organisation, managed by a board of community members after recognising a lack of services for teens and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Down Syndrome in the regional South West of Western Australia.
INKA aims to provide immediate respite assistance wherever possible. INKA’s priority is to provide short and long term respite care for up to eight clients at a time in order to provide a high staff to client ratio and maximise interaction and socialisation.
Todd Jarvis was born, raised and educated in Perth. He attended Christian Brothers College I Fremantle and went on to obtain a degree in psychology from Murdoch University. From there Todd went on to work with children experiencing severe behavioural problems in primary school and then on to early intervention therapy with children who have Autism. Following this Todd did four years running respite home care alongside Margaret Jarvis, going on to supervise respite care homes for adults through the Autism Association of WA for another five years.
Margaret Jarvis has worked with children and adults with autism for over thirty years. Born and raised in Scotland, Margaret began work with the Autism Association in England for four years in a residential school. This was followed by work in Scotland for The Scottish Society for Autism as a manager in a group home housing 18 adults. Margaret was sponsored into Australia by the Autism Association of WA in 1997 and went on to work as a group leader in early intervention for autistic children for four years as well as being a supervisor for respite services. During this period Margaret met Todd and they continued to work together as well as Margaret working in Independent Living for clients with Asperger’s.
The team at INKA Respite are committed to providing excellence in service, high quality care to all clients in a relaxed, warm and friendly environment.
